PIGS PIETRAIN

Characteristics of Pietrain pig:
- White hair color mixed in uneven black and white patches on the body, vertical ears, moderately large head, straight snout, 4 straight legs, wide buttocks, wide back, big thighs, high lean ratio (60- 62%). Poor adaptability in hot and humid tropical climates.
- Pietrain pigs have weak heart defects because they have a high rate of Halothane gene when arterial activity is prone to rupture of the heart (sudden death), poor tolerance, and sensitivity to stress.
- Pietrain pigs often use crossbreeds with Duroc pigs to create the final male line to improve rump meat yield and lean ratio.
- Adults: Boars weigh 270-350 kg / head, female pigs weigh 220-250 kg / head
- Pigs start to breed at 8 months of age when their weight is over 120 kg
- Number of children born / litter: 8-10 children
